Some excerpts from the book:
"I also write this book in memory of Sophia Mirza, Lynn Gilderdale, Emily Collingridge and every single sufferer who fought the disease and the misunderstanding of it so courageously, but sadly died too young with ME/CFS.
I now pick up from them and move forward to continue to raise awareness of the disease in the hope to make a positive change in the lives of all with ME/CFS by releasing my medical test results and the medical treatment which led directly to my recovery along with other information I discovered."
"Now though with the development of a new test for ME/CFS – the Mitochondrial Function Profile (which includes ATP profiles testing) - it is possible to see the failure of particular physical processes in the body which leads to symptoms in ME/CFS and indicate treatments most likely to help."
"I took up swimming competitively which I thoroughly enjoyed. I sprint trained most days and entered county galas. I did well, progressing quickly to one of the highest swimming club squads. I took up aerobics, worked out at the gym and enjoyed long walks in the countryside. I have always loved animals."
"...... I was utterly shocked at the result when it came back;.......
....I really hadn’t expected this result……I expected it to come back as normal and fine…… it took a while to sink in as I sat and looked at the laboratory result sheet that had come through the post from the doctor…."
"Mum would bring food up to me in bed but I was too unwell to move to sit up and move my arms to feed myself, I would have to eat it later when I had gained enough strength in my muscles and I could sit up and use my arms. All I could do was wait until these severe symptoms passed again before I could move my limbs and get up once more. It was so very frustrating.
I remember one Christmas being able to get up and sit with everyone but then the effort of opening my presents and sitting at the dinner table left me so weak and exhausted I spent the rest of the day bedridden in pain."
"As I took in the view I was amazed I’d been able do it, to walk all the way to the top! Before while I had been ill I’d only heard about this new walkway to above the treetops from family and friends - when they came back to the car or home where I had been sitting or lying. The realization that I was now walking up it took a while to sink in, it was all so very normal but just incredible to be able to do such a normal thing!"
